Miles Davis is one of the most influential musicians of 20th century. He is famous as Jazz trumpeter, bandleader and composer. He played prominent role in improving and developing Jazz.
Miles Davis was born in Alton, Illinois. He started leaning music at the age of 13 from Elwood Buchanan. At the age of 17 he played with Eddie Randle's Band, 'Blue Devils. In 1944 he moved to New York City to study but he joined Charlie Parker. Miles Davis record was released in 1945. Due to lack of confidence he was unable to give his best as a solo artist. He worked as a apprentice in 1948 and begin to grow as a solo artist even. Several singles were released in 1949 and 1950.
Miles Davis records of 1954 with Prestige label became great hits. They were 'Bag's Groove', 'Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants' and 'Walkin''. In 1955 Miles Davis played solo 'Round Midnight' at Newport Jazz Festival' which brought him under the limelight.
Miles Davis formed a group in 1955 with John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones. Group's first recording was 'Round About Midnight' which was released through Columbia records in 1955. After that Miles Davis Group had no looking back in the career of music.
Miles Davis received number of awards as a token for his dedication and contribution to music. He is the winner of Down Beat Reader's Poll in 1955 and 1957. He received Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in the year 1990.
